Sacred Sobriety values responsible sharing, proper attribution, and respect for intellectual property.

This Copyright and Permissions Policy explains how original content published through sacred-sobriety.com may and may not be used.

In this policy, “Sacred Sobriety,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Sacred Sobriety and its website administrator. “You” and “your” refer to visitors, readers, organizations, and other users of Sacred Sobriety content.

1. Ownership of Original Content

2. Sacred Sobriety Name and Branding

The Sacred Sobriety name, logo, visual identity, slogans, graphics, and associated branding may not be used in a way that suggests an official partnership, endorsement, sponsorship, affiliation, or authorization without prior written permission.

You may not:

  • Create a website or social-media account that appears to be an official Sacred Sobriety account
  • Use the Sacred Sobriety logo as your own profile image or branding
  • Place the Sacred Sobriety name or logo on merchandise without permission
  • Register a confusingly similar domain or account name
  • Present your ministry, group, publication, course, or product as part of Sacred Sobriety
  • Alter the branding in a way that misrepresents Sacred Sobriety or its message

You may accurately identify and link to Sacred Sobriety when discussing, reviewing, quoting, or recommending its content.

3. Sharing Links

You are welcome to share direct links to publicly available Sacred Sobriety pages, articles, videos, and resources.

You may share links through:

  • Social media
  • Email
  • Text messages
  • Online discussions
  • Church or recovery-group communications
  • Newsletters
  • Resource lists
  • Blog posts
  • Educational materials

When sharing, please link to the original Sacred Sobriety page rather than copying the complete work onto another platform.

Sharing a link does not require prior permission.

4. Brief Quotations

You may quote brief portions of Sacred Sobriety content for purposes such as:

  • Commentary
  • Review
  • Discussion
  • Teaching
  • Scholarship
  • News reporting
  • Personal reflection
  • Sermon or lesson preparation

Brief quotations should:

  • Preserve the original meaning
  • Clearly identify Sacred Sobriety or Timothy R. Berman as the source
  • Include the title of the original work when practical
  • Include a link to the original webpage when used online
  • Avoid reproducing the central or most substantial portion of a work
  • Avoid substituting for the original article, devotional, study guide, or resource

Suggested attribution:

Timothy R. Berman, “Title of Article,” Sacred Sobriety, sacred-sobriety.com.

There is no universal number of words that automatically makes a quotation permissible. When your intended use is substantial, commercial, repeated, or uncertain, request written permission before using the material.

5. Personal and Noncommercial Printing

You may print publicly available Sacred Sobriety articles or devotionals for your own personal, private, and noncommercial use.

You may also print a limited number of copies for a small Bible study, recovery group, church class, or ministry discussion when:

  • The resource is provided without charge
  • The content is reproduced accurately
  • The Sacred Sobriety name and attribution remain visible
  • Copyright notices are not removed
  • The material is not incorporated into a separate publication or product
  • The copies are not publicly distributed on a large scale
  • The use does not replace purchasing or downloading an offered Sacred Sobriety resource

For repeated group use, conference distribution, formal curricula, large quantities, or organizational publication, request permission first.

6. Uses Requiring Written Permission

Written permission is required before you:

  • Republish a complete article or devotional
  • Reproduce a substantial portion of an article
  • Reprint a complete study guide, worksheet, or journal section
  • Include Sacred Sobriety content in a book, booklet, magazine, curriculum, or newsletter
  • Translate Sacred Sobriety content for publication
  • Adapt content into a video, podcast, course, sermon series, or commercial presentation
  • Distribute large quantities of printed copies
  • Upload downloadable resources to another website or file-sharing service
  • Use Sacred Sobriety graphics, logos, or infographics
  • Sell or commercially distribute Sacred Sobriety content
  • Use the content as part of a paid membership, coaching program, treatment program, or course
  • Create derivative products based substantially on Sacred Sobriety materials
  • Use content in advertising, fundraising, or product promotion
  • License content to another person or organization
  • Use Sacred Sobriety material to train or populate an artificial-intelligence system, dataset, model, or commercial content-generation service

Permission is not granted merely because a use is educational, religious, nonprofit, or ministry-related.

7. Permission Requests

Requests to reproduce, translate, adapt, distribute, or otherwise use Sacred Sobriety content should be sent to:

timothyrb@sacred-sobriety.com

Use the subject line:

Copyright Permission Request

Please include:

  • Your name
  • Your organization, when applicable
  • The title and URL of the content you wish to use
  • The specific portion you wish to reproduce
  • The purpose of the proposed use
  • The format in which it will appear
  • Whether access will be free or paid
  • The estimated number of copies, viewers, or participants
  • The countries or regions in which it will be distributed
  • The expected publication or distribution date
  • How Sacred Sobriety and the author will be credited

Permission is not granted unless you receive written approval.

Sacred Sobriety may approve, deny, limit, condition, or charge a licensing fee for a proposed use at its discretion.

8. Social-Media Sharing

You may use built-in sharing functions to share Sacred Sobriety posts on social media.

When manually sharing an excerpt:

  • Use only a brief excerpt
  • Clearly attribute Sacred Sobriety
  • Link to the original post
  • Do not remove watermarks, logos, or copyright notices
  • Do not edit the material in a misleading way
  • Do not present the content as your own

Sacred Sobriety graphics may not be modified, recolored, cropped to remove branding, or combined with unrelated messaging in a way that changes their meaning without permission.

Sharing screenshots of complete articles or multiple consecutive pages is not permitted when the screenshots function as a replacement for visiting or accessing the original work.

9. Church, Ministry, and Recovery-Group Use

Churches, ministries, recovery groups, Bible studies, and nonprofit organizations may link to Sacred Sobriety content and discuss it in their meetings.

Limited use of brief quotations or a small number of printed copies may be allowed under the conditions described in this policy.

Written permission is required before an organization:

  • Adopts Sacred Sobriety material as an official curriculum
  • Reproduces material for an ongoing class or program
  • Includes the material in participant manuals
  • Publishes it on an organizational website
  • Records or broadcasts a reading of a complete work
  • Charges admission or participation fees connected with the material
  • Uses Sacred Sobriety branding to promote an event or program
  • Modifies the content for organizational use

Permission allows Sacred Sobriety to ensure that recovery and faith-based material remains accurate, properly attributed, and presented in context.

10. Personal Testimonies

Personal testimonies published through Sacred Sobriety may contain sensitive information concerning addiction, recovery, trauma, grief, homelessness, family relationships, faith, or other personal experiences.

Personal testimony content may not be:

  • Reproduced out of context
  • Used to shame, harass, ridicule, or exploit an individual
  • Used in advertising without written permission
  • Presented as a guaranteed recovery outcome
  • Altered to imply statements the author did not make
  • Used to identify private individuals whose details were intentionally omitted or changed
  • Incorporated into clinical, academic, journalistic, or commercial work without appropriate permission and attribution

Quoting a brief portion for responsible commentary does not authorize publication of the complete testimony.

11. Downloadable Materials

Downloadable worksheets, study guides, journal pages, ebooks, PDFs, or similar resources may include their own license or use instructions.

Unless a resource expressly states otherwise, downloads are licensed for the purchaser’s or recipient’s personal, noncommercial use only.

You may not:

  • Upload the file to another website
  • Email the file to a mailing list
  • Share download links that bypass the original page
  • Sell or sublicense the file
  • Remove attribution or copyright notices
  • Convert the resource into another product
  • Include it in a paid course, treatment program, or membership
  • Distribute copies throughout an organization without permission

The purchase or download of a resource does not transfer ownership of its copyright.

12. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Use

Sacred Sobriety content may not be systematically copied, scraped, harvested, stored, or used without permission for:

  • Training artificial-intelligence models
  • Building commercial datasets
  • Generating substantially similar publications
  • Automated content reproduction
  • Creating competing devotional or recovery products
  • Voice cloning
  • Image-model training
  • Automated summarization offered as a substitute for the original content
  • Commercial search or answer systems that reproduce protected material

This restriction does not prohibit ordinary search-engine indexing or lawful personal use of generally available assistive technologies.

Written permission is required for commercial, institutional, or dataset-based artificial-intelligence use.

13. Scripture Quotations

Sacred Sobriety may quote from the Bible and other religious texts.

The underlying biblical text may be in the public domain or may be protected by the copyright of a translation publisher.

Sacred Sobriety does not claim ownership of Scripture text or third-party Bible translations.

Copyright notices, translation abbreviations, and publisher acknowledgments should remain attached where required.

Permission to use an original Sacred Sobriety article does not automatically grant permission to reproduce copyrighted Scripture translations included within that article.

Anyone republishing material containing Scripture quotations is responsible for complying with the applicable translation owner’s quotation and attribution requirements.

14. Quotations and Third-Party Materials

Sacred Sobriety may include quotations, artwork, photographs, videos, logos, product information, embedded media, or other content owned by third parties.

Third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners.

Sacred Sobriety’s inclusion of third-party material does not transfer ownership or grant visitors permission to reuse that material.

Before reusing third-party material, you are responsible for determining:

  • Who owns it
  • Whether permission is required
  • Whether a license applies
  • What attribution is required
  • Whether your intended use is legally permitted

15. Amazon Product Images and Affiliate Materials

Sacred Sobriety may display Amazon affiliate links, product information, or product images in accordance with the Amazon Associates Program’s applicable terms and tools.

Amazon trademarks, product images, descriptions, and other Amazon-provided materials remain the property of Amazon or their respective owners.

Nothing in this policy gives visitors permission to copy or reuse Amazon-provided materials from Sacred Sobriety.

16. Guest Contributions

Guest articles, interviews, testimonials, artwork, photographs, or other contributions may be owned by their respective contributors or licensed to Sacred Sobriety.

Ownership and reuse rights may vary by contribution.

Do not assume that permission from Sacred Sobriety alone is sufficient to reproduce guest-owned content.

Where practical, ownership or contributor attribution will be identified with the work.

17. User Comments

Visitors generally retain ownership of original comments they submit.

By posting a comment, a visitor grants Sacred Sobriety permission to host, display, format, moderate, archive, quote, and reproduce the comment as reasonably necessary to operate and promote the website.

This permission does not authorize unrelated third parties to copy or commercially exploit visitor comments.

Anyone seeking to reproduce a visitor’s substantial comment should obtain permission from the commenter.

18. Fair Use

Nothing in this policy is intended to restrict uses that are permitted under applicable copyright law, including lawful fair use.

Fair use is determined according to the specific facts and circumstances of each use. Merely describing a use as educational, nonprofit, religious, commentary, criticism, or fair use does not automatically make it legally permissible.

Sacred Sobriety cannot provide legal advice concerning whether your proposed use qualifies as fair use.

When uncertain, request permission or consult a qualified intellectual-property attorney.

19. Reporting Copyright Infringement

Sacred Sobriety respects the intellectual-property rights of others.

A copyright owner or authorized representative who believes that material published on Sacred Sobriety infringes a copyright may send a written notice to:

timothyrb@sacred-sobriety.com

  • A statement that the information in the notice is accurate

Sacred Sobriety may request additional information before acting.

Upon receiving a sufficiently detailed and credible notice, Sacred Sobriety may investigate and remove, restrict, correct, or replace the disputed material as appropriate.

Submitting a knowingly false or materially misleading infringement claim may have legal consequences.

  • Screenshots when available
  • The date you discovered the use
  • Any other relevant details

Sacred Sobriety may contact the person, platform, hosting provider, publisher, or other responsible party to request attribution, correction, licensing, removal, or other appropriate action.

21. No Transfer of Rights

Accessing the website, subscribing, purchasing a future product, downloading a resource, or receiving permission for a limited use does not transfer ownership of Sacred Sobriety intellectual property.

All rights not expressly granted remain reserved.

22. Revocation of Permission

Sacred Sobriety may revoke previously granted permission when:

  • The content is used outside the approved scope
  • Attribution is removed
  • The content is materially altered
  • The use becomes misleading or harmful
  • The use violates applicable law
  • The user fails to comply with stated conditions
  • The use falsely suggests endorsement or affiliation

When permission is revoked, the recipient must stop the unauthorized use within a reasonable period specified by Sacred Sobriety.
